The tech industry has been swept
up by OpenAI's viral chatbot phenomenon, which was ostensibly created to spur
competition. Now, as Google announced the creation of its own chatbot, we
analyze what may be an AI supremacy war between ChatGPT and Bard.
The former has amazed people with
its amazing powers and is evidence of advancement in AI technology. The latter
is a recently integrated system that aims to meet consumer demand.
Additionally, both are offered by Microsoft and Google, two of the greatest tech
firms on the planet.
Bard vs ChatGPT: Similarities
Although they are much more
sophisticated versions of the programs than what we've traditionally seen,
ChatGPT and Bard are both best characterized as generative AI. Both systems
operate similarly and are capable of giving quite sophisticated answers to
various questions.
The AI chatbots respond to
questions, requests, or prompts entered by users. They are essentially multiple
iterations of the same goal: to guide the development of artificial
intelligence and determine how to make it more beneficial to humanity.
Their seemingly limitless
applicability is another key commonality. Not merely because of their
technology, but also because of the money invested in its creation. In an AI
arms race that should give them both viability and relevance as the field
advances, Microsoft and Google both have ambitious plans for AI systems.
Both businesses then intend to
incorporate the technology into their search engines. Microsoft hopes that
ChatGPT will improve the performance of its Bing search engine. A breakthrough
that might make it more of a threat to the wildly popular Google search engine.
Bard vs ChatGPT: Differences
Because of the relative youth of technology and the fact that there are just two big players vying for
domination, the disparities are quite noticeable. On the other hand, Reuters
has emphasized that the only real distinction found is in Bard's capacity to
contextualize its response.
This is unquestionably a result
of the vast amount of information Bard has access to because of Alphabet and
Google. Additionally, Reuters points out that ChatGPT only keeps data access
available until 2021, whereas Bard uses the internet to obtain its information.
The language model that is
employed for both ChatGPT and Bard is another significant distinction. As a result,
both generative AI systems make use of different language models, which
contributes to yet another aspect that highlights their distinctions.
LaMDA versus GPT
LaMDA, or Learning Algorithm for
Dialogue Applications, was used by Bard. It was alleged that one firm engineer
said that technology was sentient since AI produces prose that is so
outstanding. This assertion was later entirely refuted.
Generative Pre-Trained
Transformer, or GPT, research firms are used by OpenAI's ChatGPT in contrast.
The 3.5 version of the language model, which served as the chatbot's primary
fundamental technology, was initially made public in 2020.
Both of the generative AI systems
in use today represent tremendous advancements, but they are far from perfect.
However, what gets them so intriguing is the financial support that has the
potential to advance the AI sector greatly. Only testers have access to Bard
right now, but it will apparently become more widely available over the next
weeks.
