Although this institution was granted its university charter in 1961, it has a far longer history as a prestigious centre for engineering sciences education. The institution first opened for business in 1921 under the name Mughalpura Technical College, taking its moniker from the renowned suburb of the historic city of Lahore, which is abundantly populated with Mughal-era structures including the majestic Shalimar Gardens. When Sir Edwards Maclagan, the then-Governor of the Punjab, laid the cornerstone for the structure that is now known as the Main Block in 1923, he gave it the more well-known name of the pre-university era, the Maclagan Engineering College. This structure still retains its majesty despite the wear and tear of almost a century.

When it was in operation, the university offered courses in electrical and mechanical engineering. When this college teamed up with the University of the Punjab to offer engineering bachelor's degrees, it marked a pivotal moment in its history. At the time of independence, or in 1947, it had well-established B.Sc. degree programmes in civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering, and the high calibre of its academic standards gave it distinction throughout British India. The Mining Engineering Bachelor's degree programme was the first of its kind in the country when it started in 1954. However, when it was granted university status in 1961, it started a massive expansion and development.

It set a number of objectives for itself, but its top priority was to start teaching the disciplines that were essential for the development of the country but were not being offered by any institutions there. As a result, bachelor's degree programmes in architecture, city & regional planning, petroleum & gas engineering, chemical engineering, and metallurgical engineering were introduced in the 1960s. Later, the University focused its resources and efforts on creating its postgraduate programmes. By the 1970s, it had established more than a dozen Master's degree programmes in a variety of engineering, architecture, planning, and related fields of study. A number of disciplines also introduced Ph.D. degree programmes.

With a tremendous rise in student enrolment in the 1970s, the university's consolidation and strengthening efforts remained a top priority. As a result, Sahiwal's University College of Engineering was founded in 1975. It operated in Sahiwal for three years before moving to its current site in Taxila in 1978. This college was later transformed into a university and is now known as the University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila.

A key objective of the University has been to establish research traditions in the fields of engineering and related sciences. The University established the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), formerly known as the Directorate of Research, Extension and Advisory Services, with this goal in mind. ORIC works to organise and promote research activities.

There are currently more than 13,163 students enrolled, a significant rise from previous years. Currently, 2,527 students are enrolled in postgraduate programmes. Currently, 3,462 female students are enrolled in a variety of fields, and this number is steadily increasing. The university has a diverse atmosphere because to its over 479 international students. Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Kenya, Nepal, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bangladesh, Yemen, Somalia, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Sri Lanka are among the countries represented by these students.

Among the 766 instructors employed by the institution, 382 have doctoral degrees, while 101 are enrolled in doctoral programmes abroad. The academic departments at the university are split up into the following seven faculties:

The university opened a campus in Faisalabad in 2006, as well as the University's City Campus in Kala Shah Kaku in 2007. As a constituent college, Rachna College of Engineering & Technology in Gujranwala adheres to the same academic standards and regulations as the Lahore campus' main campus. In order to provide the District of Narowal and its surrounds with skilled technical labour, the university opened a new campus in Narowal in 2012. 1. General guidelines

a) During the admissions season, university staff members will be accessible for one-on-one consultations.

3 General Conditions for Qualification

Candidates for admission to any of the university's bachelor's degree programmes must fulfil the following requirements:

He should have received at least 60% in Intermediate/DAE or a comparable foreign qualifying test, with the exception of marks from sports and Hafiz-e-Quran.
He should have registered for the entrance exam that this university planned for the academic year for which he is applying. His subject combination in the Entry Test must match his intermediate (or comparable) subject combination because he will only be considered for admission in the prescribed disciplines relevant to it. Individuals who qualify under the DAE are exempt from this restriction.
If an applicant wants to be considered for admission based on a B.Sc. in Engineering Technology or a degree of a similar caliber, he or she must have earned (or be expected to earn) at least 60% of the possible points under the annual system, or a 2.5 CGPA under the semester system.
He should have obtained (or anticipate obtaining) at least 50% of the total adjusted aggregate marks determined using the method outlined in the section on merit calculation.
He must legitimately reside in the area from which he is applying for admission.
He must adhere to the physical and vision requirements listed in the medical certificate.

4. Max age and gender

There is no minimum age restriction to enroll in any of the university's bachelor's degree programmes. Candidates that identify as male, female, or transgender are eligible for all positions.

UET Lahore merit determination

1. Exams taken into consideration for merit

The following exams are taken into consideration for determining merit for admission to bachelor's degree programmes, with the exception of BBA, BBIT, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Mathematics, and Physics programmes:

Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry; Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science; Mathematics, Physics, Statistics; or Physics, Chemistry, Biology on an intermediate level or its equivalent.
Entry Test 2022;
For reserved places only, a diploma of associate engineering, a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, or an equivalent is required.

In determining merit for admission to bachelor's degree programmes in business (i.e., BBA and BBIT), chemistry, environmental science, mathematics, and physics, the following exams are taken into account:

Intermediate or its equivalent in all combinations
Associate Engineer Diploma, B.Sc. in Engineering Technology, or an equivalent degree.

2. Determining merit

The overall adjusted admission grades that applicants received in the aforementioned exams will be used to compare their relative merit.

i. For applicants with Intermediate or comparable credentials:

A weighting of 70% is given to the percentage of marks earned, which includes the Hafiz-e-Quran and sports scores.
Entry test scores are given 30% weight.

ii. Only for applicants who hold a Diploma of Associate Engineer qualification:

The percentage of marks earned in the Associate Engineer Diploma, including those in sports and Hafiz-e-Quran, is given 70% weight.
Entry test scores are given 30% weight.

iii. For candidates with a B.Sc. in engineering technology or an equivalent degree (only for reserved seats):

70% weight to Percentage of marks obtained in B.Sc. Engineering Technology degree in case of annual system. In case of the degree being awarded under semester system, a CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.0 will be equated to 60% marks and a CGPA of 4.0 out of 4.0 would be equated to 90% marks. Other values of CGPA, out of 4.0, will be interpolated accordingly.
30% weight to Entry test marks.

3. Merit of intermediate (Pre-Medical) with Mathematics

The marks earned in the subject of Mathematics are substituted for the marks earned in the subject of Biology when assessing the merit of an applicant who has Intermediate (Pre-Medical) with Mathematics as an additional subject.

4. Hafiz-E-Quran's bonus marks

A Hafiz-e-Quran receives bonus points for determining merit. He will only be eligible for the benefit if he has done the following: He will only be eligible for the benefit if he has done the following:

checked the appropriate box on the online application form; and
appeared before the "verification committee," which is appointed by the Vice Chancellor, for an oral test. The committee can assign him a score between zero and twenty depending on how proficient he is.

5. Giving sports credit

a) Ticking the box on the online application form;

b) Appeared before the Vice-appointed Chancellor's "verification committee," which will assess his level of sportsmanship using the following standards:

A sportsman applicant's academic scores from the Intermediate or equivalent examination will receive an additional maximum of ten points. Only if he receives "05 Marks for Physical Test demonstrating Actual Performance and Endurance" would he be eligible for the bonus.

The following grades are given: 01 Mark for Inter College Champion, 02 Marks for District Level Champion, 03 Marks for Divisional Level, 04 Marks for Provincial Level, 05 Marks for National Level or under 18 representation abroad.

6. Transfer based on merit and indicated preferences

If a seat opens up in the discipline or category of the applicant's higher preference and he is eligible to take it on the basis of merit, he will immediately be transferred to that discipline or category.

7. Seats left

Any seats allocated to a category (other than Open Merit) that go unfilled due to a lack of qualified applicants are transferred to the Punjab-domiciled Open Merit category and filled there according to the identical regulations that apply to the former.

8. Merit determined category wise

The University distributes its available seats for admission to its bachelor's degree programmes across several categories. The discussion of these categories follows. The Seats Allocation Chart contains information on seat distribution. Each category's applications are gathered in its own group. The comparative merit of the applicants in the group is then prepared based on the percentage admission marks. Thus, for the seats allotted to a category, the applicants within that category compete for admission.
