The newest and best flagship
phone Vivo X90 Pro+ from Vivo is now available, and the Chinese company is so sure of this
that its camera is dubbed the "King of One Inch sensors." Although
the phone is not the first to use Sony's IMX989 imager, it includes several upgrades that set it apart from the competition.
The newest X-series devices, the
Vivo X90 and X90 Pro include a number of upgrades over their predecessors. The
two phones have superb cameras and quick charging times thanks to MediaTek's
top Dimensity 9200 CPU.
Display Configuration
The Vivo X90 Pro+'s 6.78"
display is substantial and has a 1440p resolution (20:9). It boasts a Samsung
E6 LTPO 4 AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and 10-bit colour depth.
The panel has a maximum brightness of 1,800 nits and is dimmed using a 1,440Hz
high-frequency PWM dimming technology. The factory tunes the dual-curved
display for Dolby Vision.
It is waterproof and
water-resistant due to its IP68 certification and the placement of its
fingerprint sensor beneath the screen. Despite being larger in size, it is
thinner and lighter than the Xiaomi 12S Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro Max, all of
which weigh 230g and have a 14mm thickness (9.7mm thickness).

6.78-inch curved AMOLED panels
with QHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate are standard on the X90 and X90
Pro. The screens produce 10-bit (1 billion) colours and can reach a maximum
brightness of 1,300 nits. Like the Pro+ version, the screen has a curved edge.
While the Pro model has IP68 resistance, the standard model is only IP64
resistant.
Software and Storage
Not only does the Vivo X90 Pro+
have a fantastic camera. It is the first smartphone to use the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, which, according to benchmarks,
offers a significant improvement in performance. It contains an 8,900 mm2 vapor
chamber to control thermals, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB or 512GB of new UFS 4.0
storage.
OriginOS 3 is installed over
Android 13 on the Vivo X90 Pro+ when it sells in China. The customary
Funtouch OS will be installed on the worldwide model.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is
featured on the Pro+ variant, although MediaTek's Dimenisty 9200 SoC powers the
standard X90 and X90 Pro. This is the most advanced flagship chip from MediaTek
for Android phones, and it is a strong contender to the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Both devices support 8 to 12 GB of RAM, while the X90 Pro offers 256 GB and 512
GB of storage options as opposed to the normal X90's 128 GB and 512 GB.
While the global variations will move to Funtouch OS, Chinese models will use Origin OS 3 on top of Android 13.
Camera Department
The main 50MP sensor features a
photosensitive surface that is 77% larger than the 1/1.3" sensor of the
X80 Pro. Three 1.6 m sensors can be used to provide a 3.2 m effective pixel
size.
The X90 Pro+ is made up of two
telephoto cameras. Because it includes 100x digital zoom capabilities in
addition to a 3.5x optical zoom, the lens with the 64MP 90mm periscope is more
appealing. Behind a 50mm portrait lens with an f/1.6 fixed focus setting is a
50MP sensor (IMX758). The aforementioned three cameras all include OIS.
The IMX598 48MP sensor for the
ultrawide-angle lens has improved low distortion. To help the rear cameras'
autofocus, the laser system employs a time-of-flight (ToF) laser system.
The X90 Pro+ can capture 14-bit
RAW video at 14-bit or 8K videos at 30 frames per second. The selfie camera also
has a 32MP sensor with an f/2.45 aperture.
The camera of the X90 has a 50MP
Sony IMX866 primary sensor with an f/1.75 lens and OIS. Similar to the Pro+
model, the X90 Pro features a 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor with a large f/1.75
aperture. The camera has two lens options: a 12MP IMX663 with 2x optical zoom
for telephoto shots, and a 12MP IMX663 with an ultrawide camera. Furthermore, the
V2 ISP chip for image processing performs better in low light.
The identical 32MP selfie camera
with 4K video recording is included on all three of the phones in the series.
Battery and Pricing
The X90 Pro+'s 4,700 mAh battery
is split into two cells for rapid charging. It may be charged at a wired rate
of 80W or wirelessly at a rate of 50W. To attain a full charge, 33 minutes are
all that is required.
Although the phone would be sold
in China with its Original Black and Red body colours, Vivo did not provide any
information regarding plans for a global launch. It has a $970 starting price
in China.
Although wireless charging is not
available, the Vivo X90 and X90 Pro's 120W charging speed is faster than the
Pro+ model. While the second opts for a 4870 mAh battery, the first employs a
4810 mAh battery.
In China, the starting prices for
the Vivo X90 and X90 Pro are $518 and $700, respectively. Pricing will probably
rise everywhere.
